An extra hour looks like a rounding error. Stack it for a decade and it starts to resemble a sabbatical that nobody scheduled. This experiment asks what happens if you actually get that hour — by finishing sooner, commuting less, sleeping a little more efficiently, or simply not giving it away. The default is 60 minutes, with a slider if your recovered slice is smaller or larger, and a horizon of 40 years so the total can grow to something you can point at. It does not tell you where the hour should come from, and it does not award the time to work. The hour is yours in the model because you said it was.

One hour is a small number until it repeats
Sixty minutes a day is 365 hours in a non-leap year, a little more once 365.25 is used. That is about 15 days of clock time every year, or a fortnight and a bit. Forty years of fortnights is more than a year and a half. People plan holidays with more ceremony than that, which is part of why the total surprises.
Where the time could come from
The science experiment on a world without sleep is the extreme version of this question. Closer to home, a shorter commute, a four-day week, or reclaiming a slice of screen time all feed the same pile. ACAS rest rules exist so working time does not quietly eat the hour you thought you had. This page stays agnostic about the source and only multiplies the minutes.
A year made of recovered afternoons
If you are 32 and you keep the extra hour for 40 years, the recovered block lands around age 72. That is a useful picture and not a plan. What you put in the hour — a walk, a second job, nothing — changes the life and does not change this total. How we calculated this
Recovered hours = years × 365.25 × (minutesPerDay ÷ 60). Days, weeks and years of clock time use 24-hour days. Age is used only to label the span from now to now + years. The minutes are assumed available every day, including weekends and holidays.
